All eyes are on the Hollenbeck Police Business Council, aka the Hollenbeck Youth Center, as we celebrate our 50th+ anniversary and the 30th+ anniversary of our flagship groundbreaking, youth engagement program, The Inner-City Games, renamed After-School All-Stars.
Together we recognize that our success could not have been possible without the support of individuals and organizations like yours. Our journey has been one of turning chaos into community. We are the Inner City Games and this is our story.

Although recognizing the need for police reform, the Hollenbeck model focused on positive engagement between police and the community as the right way forward.
Following the devastating 1992 riots in Los Angeles, we provided a proven form of healing to a fractured city, which became the beginning of a grassroots movement of hope, access, and the future for our communities.
Our efforts attracted participation from all walks of life including politicians, professionals, corporations, celebrities, sports figures, and volunteers. We earned respect from the highest levels of local, state, national, and even international governments.
Throughout the nineties, our movement, using the Hollenbeck after-school model, became a nationalized shared vision and was instrumental in reducing crime and violence by partnering with law enforcement, rather than fighting against them.
After the tragedy of 9/11 in 2001, the inner-city games movement began to stall as law enforcement’s priorities turned more toward combating ‘terrorism’ rather than community development. Despite deep funding challenges, by 2003 national Inner-City Games was established in dozens of cities across America and later rebranded to After School All Stars, which continues to thrive to this day.
Together we remain true to our cause which is to help millions of kids by guiding them to pathways toward the American Dream and giving them the tools to achieve that dream.
In the last several years our country has experienced many tragedies. Divisions have resurfaced in our inner-cities. Our 50th+ anniversary will tell the stories of our successes and the movement that has worked. We are committed to making it work today.
